What’s the story behind you and the Red Brick Soul?

It began with searching for a decent white or dirty buck. They just did not exist when I started this. When I went to the factory to put together the collection, it just hit me to put the red brick soles on other traditional shoes to make them more casual. Thus, “Red Brick Soul” was born.

Aside from your own line, you have worked for or with many well-known traditional American menswear companies. What is your opinion on the status of American menswear today?

American menswear, after a steady decline for about the past 30 years, is back on track. There is now a new regime.

From where do you draw your inspiration for your shoes, and why England?

I am an Anglophile. For the most part, traditional American style was born in England. Savile Row, regimental stripes, oxford cloth, polo button-down shirts, etc.

Do you recommend that people use both your shoes and our DQM Red Brick Soul skateboard at the same time?

I do recommend wearing Red Brick Souls while skating. Trash them and buy more.

Are you going to be setting up one of the DQM Red Brick Soul skateboards for yourself?

My brother will be riding a board. Mine will hang on my wall, until my 2 year old son is ready to ride. You do not want to see me on a skateboard.
