World Cup: USA vs. Slovenia
June 19, 2010
There’s no point in complaining about the worst blown call in sports this year. It happened and there’s nothing we can do about it.
Yesterday, ALLEGED official “Sleepy Eyes” Koman Coulibaly robbed the USA of their greatest comeback ever against Slovenia, and in doing so eliminated any type of breathing room we might have in advancing out of Group C EASILY. But that’s ok, it was a draw, and again, I’ll take it. It wasn’t the defeat I felt in my stomach late into the first half as I left Nike Stadium, where fans had once again gathered to support our troops. The US looked sluggish in the first half, and a stunned Tim Howard let in an early goal from Valter Birsa starting the spark for Slovenia. However, USA’s rally was hands down the best soccer I’ve seen in any half of this Cup. Donovan’s goal was outstanding and Bradley delivered an early Father’s Day gift for Coach Dad in the 82nd minute. Aww! And of course there was the reversed goal from Maurice Edu, admist all the Slovenian bear hugging fouls which we were wrongfully accused.
So what happens now? The USA need to beat Algeria and we can advance. Let’s not worry about England’s choke squad and any more draws or goals scored nonsense. If we can play like we did in that second half, without being down to do so, we will be just fine. I can’t say the same for ol’ Sleepy Eyes. Not only will he probably never ref another game considering his history of blowing it, but I’m sure he’ll also be given the keys to the city of Cleveland, OH where he can join the 80,000 Slovenians that live there. Cool. I’ve been to the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and it sucked.
