Eight years ago today, DQM opened its door to the public on East 3rd St in the Bowery. The door has stayed open seven days a week through eight New York winters, two hurricanes, an earthquake, The Hat stopping street margaritas, track bikes, a plane landing in the Hudson River, George Steinbrenner, Mass Appeal, countless economic depressions, rollerblades, two wars, a black out, the closing of the Brooklyn Banks…
... Canal Jeans, Giuliani, the gentrification of Orchard street and the Lower East Side, smoking in bars, The Hole, Mars Bar, Deathbowl to Downtown, sneakers, George Bush, and just about everything else that you could throw at us. We drank a lot, went skating, worked around the clock on the store and the brand. By all accounts we should have been gone along with everything else that disappeared over the last eight years. We decided that just couldn’t happen, and decided to open some new doors instead. Thanks to our customers, friends and family for holding us up and keeping us open, cheers to you from the entire DQM crew.
