The 43-year-old rapper Guru, of Gang Starr fame, reportedly suffered a massive heart attack in New York City over the weekend and has been left in a coma since. He will undergo surgery today.

Update: Rapper Guru is recovering from cardiac surgery after suffering a heart attack at the weekend (27-28Feb10). The 43 year old, a member of pioneering hip-hop duo Gang Starr, collapsed on Sunday (28Feb10) and was rushed to a New York hospital, where he fell into in a coma. He underwent surgery on Monday (01Mar10) and the operation was a success, according to his hip-hop collaborator DJ Premier.

step in the arena was a heavy influence for me growing up in the early 90s. got me deeper into east coast hip hop. kids down in san antonio wer’e all about west coast bangers, well at least in my universe. gang starr was an easy transition for me. my prayers are with guru and fam…get well soon my dude.
